From May 17, 2012 the collection exhibition Voor eeuwig de jouwe (Forever yours), is open to the public in SCHUNCK *, Heerlen.
In the late 40’s the city Heerlen in The Netherlands started to build a private collection of Modern and Contemporary Art. For six decades, this collection has been expanded gradually, based on the changing assumptions of a certain time. The exhibition ‘Voor eeuwig de jouwe’, shows this development based on the choices made by four persons who successively were responsible for the collection development: Pieter Defesche, Anke van der Laan, Patricia van der Lugt and Stijn Huijts.
What combines the past, the present and the future of the collection, is the search of contemporary and innovative work of arts and the conviction that they should be preserved "for eternity". The public aspect of the collection, where the people and the city both have a role is cherished: the art collection - now in custody of SCHUNCK * - is made by and for Heerlen and its inhabitants, and for everyone else. Therefore the exhibition is freely accessible to all inhabitants of Heerlen. And to ensure that every visitor can enjoy its ‘own’ art collection, the museum is undergoing a metamorphosis from showroom into a living room. Feel free to read the exhibition title ‘Voor eeuwig de jouwe’ like a declaration of love, with a silent hope for an answer ...
For this exhibition, also a publication is issued about the SCHUNCK *-collections.
From May 16, the entire collection is digitally accessible via www.schunck.nl
