ZON Anima/Animus - Ostend

Monumental bronze Sculpture for the city of Ostend (BE).

Installation with a Seaking helicopter and inauguration in the Maria-Hendrika Park on January 14th 2013 at 2.30 pm.

ZON (SUN) Anima/Animus is a work by Johan Tahon. It will be installed in Ostend, Belgium in the centre of the Spiegelmeer Lake (Maria-Hendrika Park).

The sculpture subtly rises from the water,
embracing the clouds,
the sun shining on its head,
the look to heaven for ever.

The City Council of Ostend cordially invites you to the inauguration of the sculpture. Its positioning will be spectacular. The sculpture will be placed on a base in the centre of the ‘Spiegelmeer’ lake and a Seaking helicopter will attach its top part.
Symbolically it represents the descending of the new Sun on the lake. If weather conditions are fine ZON will be installed on Monday January 14th 2013 at 2.30 pm. We invite you to join us at 1.30pm  at the Mijnbestrijdingsschool Eguermin Bootsman Jonsen army barracks. At 2.30pm we walk to the Spiegelmeer Lake. After the installation you are welcome to join us at the Bootsman Jonsen army barracks for a bite and a drink in the presence of the artist, Jan Hoet and Willy Van den Bussche. Date and time of the installation are indicative and are subject to various factors, like the wind. It means the day and the time of the installation could change. So we kindly request you to confirm your interest and your presence by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Maria-Hendrika Park in Ostend was entirely redone in 2005. The park has been re-interpreted in a new and functional way with enough space for contemporary art integration. The renovation plan refers to the solar system. The sculptor Johan Tahon (°1965) will install a monumental bronze sculpture in the centre of the Spiegelmeer Lake. With great dedication Johan Tahon has worked on the idea of integrating a fitting sculpture in the renovated park. His monumental sculpture ZON Anima / Animus measures 8 metres high, bronze and stands in the middle of the lake. The work refers to the planets, the archetypes and myths. The sculpture is entirely grafted on the spot and the elliptical lake. It is an anchor, a beacon, a mirror image in the Spiegelmeer Lake.

Compleet overzichtswerk 20 jaar beeldende kunst Johan Tahon
